Adaptive Sampler Value: Noise Threshold -> Visualisation

For everyone who is interested, the relation of the parameter “Noise Threshold” can be seen here as a raw-render output:

The gradations are: 1 / 0.5 / 0.25 / 0.1 / 0.05 / 0.025 / 0.01 (Denoising = OFF)

As far as I remember, each halving of the Value caused about a doubling of the render time

Interesting approach.

As a 3rd option, apart from uniform and adaptive sampling, appleseed now has a Texture-controlled Sampler.
Using it one can define an arbitrary area to be rendered to higher sample numbers compared to the rest of the image frame.

An example is here in the screenshot, the appleseed-logo texture is used to control samples.

It is not yet exposed in our plugins, not even in the latest blenderseed build for Blender 2.80. But you can export for instance an appleseed scene file from Blender, load it into and enable texture controlled sampling there.

This is a feature useful for animation productions where one wants to have a means to manually override sample numbers in specific areas. For instance to sample a region of interest which is difficult to render with more samples. Maxwell Render has a similar function called Extra Sampling.
