SPPM – fallback into single core on high photon count?

#1

Hi.
In Appleseed’s SPPM, there seems to be a time period where only one single core is used. The higher the photon count, the longer the single-core time period.
If photon count is set to 10 million, it could be observed. Is there a reason why other cores are not used?

Leonard

That could be the construction of acceleration structures for photon lookups. As far as I remember this is the only phase that isn’t multithreaded yet.

If you’re rendering from appleseed.studio, what’s the last line printed in the log when it appears that a single core is being used?

Hi Franz.

Its probably what you said.

On single core time Appleseed.Studio logged
" building sppm photon map from 59,646,110 photons."
