Why there is no tutorial for appleseed, anybody intrest in creating tutorial for complex material setup. I like to learn appleseed but is not easy as Cycles.
A good place to start with materials is the documentation about appleseed shaders. In the docs you will find a detailed description about each shader and their parameter.
- The main materials, asStandardSurface & asDisneyMaterial are not identical but quite similar to Arnold’s StandardSurface and RenderMan’s PxrDisney shader and their detailed help is a good reference.
- Look in the Forum, we have threads posted showing how to use e.g. bump & normal mapping or the blackbody emission shader in a scene.
It is true that we lack tutorials and more documentation but that is the case for most open source projects. We are dependent on voluntary user contributions and simply don’t have the resources to do tutorials and the development of the render engine and DCC plug-ins at the same time.
